The South Texas American Red Cross team joined community partners Proyecto Vida Digna and Iglesia Vino Nuevo Para las Naciones at a USDA Rural Development Texas resource and information event in Edinburg. The event brought together multiple federal agencies to share information about grants, funding opportunities, technical assistance, and programs designed to support rural communities throughout South Texas.
This opportunity grew out of conversations that followed the May 2026 disaster recovery efforts. During those discussions, community partners identified ongoing home repair needs among local families and shared their desire to help address those challenges. However, many organizations lacked awareness of available funding sources and support programs. Recognizing this gap, the Red Cross researched potential opportunities and identified the USDA event as a valuable venue for partners to connect with resources that could strengthen their capacity to serve their communities.
By attending the event, Proyecto Vida Digna and Iglesia Vino Nuevo Para las Naciones gained direct access to information from federal agencies, learned about programs that may support their work, and expanded their networks with organizations focused on community development and recovery. Buckner Rio Grande Valley also participated and connected directly with both partner organizations, sharing information about available services, resources, and potential areas for collaboration.

These conversations created new opportunities for relationship-building and coordination among organizations that share a commitment to helping South Texas families recover and thrive. The connections made during the event may help partners access additional resources and strengthen their ability to address ongoing community needs.
This effort demonstrates how the Red Cross supports long-term community resilience by listening to partners, identifying opportunities, and fostering connections between organizations and resources. By helping community-based organizations access information, build relationships, and explore potential sources of support, the Red Cross helps strengthen the local networks that are critical to recovery and future resilience.
