Since joining the American Red Cross in 2023, Andrew Kerr has been a dedicated member of our Disaster Action Team (DAT), responding to emergencies and supporting families during some of their most difficult moments. From assisting residents after home fires to providing comfort and support in shelters, Andrew has quickly become an invaluable part of our mission.
Andrew is also a proud disabled veteran who served in the U.S. Army for a year and a half as a computer technician. After leaving the military, he wanted to continue giving back in a meaningful way. When asked why he chose to volunteer with the Red Cross, Andrew shared:
“I wanted to do more with my time rather than just play video games at home. After I left the military, I wanted to find a way to serve my community—which was the reason I joined the military in the first place.”
Recently, Andrew was on the scene assisting after a devastating home fire that affected more than 100 units. His compassion, dedication, and willingness to serve highlight the impact Red Cross volunteers make every day.
To those considering volunteering, Andrew has a simple but powerful message:
“Just try something and see if you like it. The Red Cross has so many different opportunities and experiences for volunteers—there is something here for everyone!”
We are deeply grateful to Andrew and to our entire Disaster Action Team for their tireless efforts and commitment. Volunteers like Andrew ensure that the Red Cross can continue to bring hope, comfort, and care to those who need it most.
