Local Red Cross Volunteer Jose Luis Yanez hails from the small town of Donna Texas, population 17,000. A very typical community of Southern Texas with a significant agricultural industry and a Hispanic population of 93 percent. Jose Luis is no stranger to flooding as he has seen it often in Donna because of its low elevation. When Jose Luis heard that the flooding was coming he knew that he was ready to respond and help his community.
Jose Luis has been an American Red Cross Volunteer for 20 years and is always ready to jump into action when disasters strike. He is always in constant movement, moving equipment, supplies, helping other volunteers and meeting every demand and request.
When asked why do you volunteer with the Red Cross? He replied, “I like what I do and I want to give back to my community.”
Like many Red Cross volunteers the dedication they put in the job they do can be characterized as their commitment, loyalty, and passion for the organization. Jose Luis is always ready to give it his all to help lighten the load of those affected by disasters like the South Texas flooding.
It is thanks to great volunteers like Jose Luis that the Red Cross is able to fulfill its mission and help those in need.
The Red Cross, powered by volunteers, is responsible for aiding the recovery process following disasters like the one in South Texas. Bilingual volunteers are valuable every day in the chapter but especially when disasters strike. Please consider volunteering with the Red Cross and being the hope those need during devastation by going to redcross.org/Texas.
