Michelle Streeter, Navy veteran, was tremendously impacted by the historical rainfall that pounded the Rio Grande Valley on March 26, 2025. She had approximately 10 inches of water in her apartment and was forced to spend the first night in her apartment as it was impossible to exit.
When it was safe for Michelle to leave her home she was able to go find refuge at the Harlingen Convention Center, which is a shelter run by the American Red Cross. In the shelter the Red Cross among other organizations are helping her get back on her feet and be able to find housing. She is very thankful of all the volunteers and the American Red Cross, but just wanted to give kudos to Jennifer Lynch from Philadelphia. “She’s just exceptional.”
“This is not the first time the American Red Cross has helped me,” said Michelle. “They also helped me during the flooding in Oklahoma, and all I can say is that the American Red Cross is helpful and they are always there in my time off need.”
The Red Cross has been helping in South, TX since the rain started Wednesday night and is working closely with local officials and our partners to best help the communities affected. To find a shelter go to redcross.org, downloads the free Red Cross Emergency app or by call 1-800-RED CROSS (800-733-2767).
People affected by disasters need urgent help now, and we can’t do this alone. You can help by making a financial donation, or signing up to become a volunteer by visiting redcross.org or calling 1-800-RED CROSS (800-733-2767).
