From Christmas to Valentine’s Day, winter lends itself to many opportunities to celebrate, give and share. However, every day is a chance for all of us to give the gift of kindness – and National Random Acts of Kindness Day reminds us of such. While many celebrate the gift-giving season through grand gestures of affection, even small acts of kindness to family, friends or strangers can brighten their day and yours.
Remember, no act of kindness is too small and the Red Cross offers many opportunities to spread kindness by giving back to your community and individuals in need:
- Give blood – Giving blood is giving the gift of life, and according to the Red Cross, someone in the U.S. needs blood or platelets every two seconds. Take this chance to learn about the requirements for blood donors, download the Red Cross Blood Donor app, schedule an appointment or find a Red Cross blood drive near you.
- Volunteer – Did you know that volunteers are 90% of the Red Cross workforce? The Red Cross has a variety of volunteer options from communications to shelter services for groups and individuals to donate their time and valuable skill sets. The Red Cross also has many volunteer positions that are in urgent need and no matter the role, there is a fit for everyone.
- Make a contribution – Through financial contributions, the Red Cross is able to provide communities with essential aid in times of crisis. You can choose where you would like your donation to help including disaster relief, blood services, your local Red Cross programs or wherever it is needed most. You can also share this kindness with those you cherish by dedicating your gift to a friend or loved one.
Whether you choose to spread kindness through blood donation, volunteering your time or financial contribution, you are actively taking part in positively impacting the lives of many and making the world a kinder place.
