Francisco Philibert has been a red cross volunteer for over two years. Throughout his time as a volunteer he has been involved in several different opportunities, including a member of the Disaster Action Team (DAT), a bilingual spokesperson, and now is part of the communications team. His love for storytelling, writing, and skills in photography has made him an exceptional member of the Red Cross.
His interest in volunteering first peaked when hurricane Laura struck Louisiana in 2021. There was a void of volunteers and the need for bilingual spokes people was crucial. Francisco felt he needed to help so he drove to the closest Red Cross he could find and asked what he could do. He was welcomed there by a volunteer recruiter who connected him with the communications team. They were so happy to see him that immediately he had a red cross vest given to him and was asked to help with reporter interview. After that, his passion grew and became an active member of the Red Cross.
“You really have to be interested in serving in order to fully help your community,” said Francisco.
The time he spends volunteering is only a small portion of his life. Outside of the Red Cross, Francisco enjoys writing fiction, traveling, learning new skills, spending time with his son, and has even developed a hobby for photography and editing. Francisco remains an active member of the Red Cross and expresses how much he really enjoys being a volunteer. The Red Cross and everyone that benefits from its services is incredibly grateful to have a member such as Francisco on their side.
